Dominican Republic knocking on film-industry’s door

by EAStaff | August 23, 2011

The Consulate of the Dominican Republic opened its doors in Glendale, CA with a grand celebration which included live music, folkloric dancers, and an array of celebrity guests.  The celebration was held due to the newly created film commission and tax incentives, which will lure major studios into the country.

Among the guests, the Vice-President of the Dominican Republic, Rafael Alburquerque, the General Consul, Celeste Jimenez, and Film Commissioner, Ellis Perez. Heading the celebrity list was Susie Castillo, Nadine Velazquez, Kiki Melendez, Alih Jey, and Rosa Acosta.

In a quick catch up with Susie Castillo, she told us that she’s trying her hand as a producer with various projects lined up. However, the former Miss USA continues promoting her book, ‘Confidence is Queen’. As for Nadine Velazquez, after the success she had with the tv show ‘My Name is Earl’, she’ll be returning to ‘The League’ on FX this Fall.  She has also been shooting a new series with Rachel Bilson, called ‘Hart of Dixie’, which premieres Sept. 26 on the CW.
