by EAStaff | October 4, 2024

Carlos Sanz, an emerging singer and actor from Alicante, Spain, is excited to announce his feature film debut in The Nana Project, a heartwarming mockumentary-style comedy directed by Robin Givens, whose extensive career spans acting and directing in television and film, including Netflix's hit show Riverdale. This film marks a significant milestone in Sanz's career, showcasing his talent alongside an impressive ensemble cast, including Oscar and Golden Globe winner Mercedes Ruehl, Nolan Gould (Modern Family), and Will Peltz (Manifest).

The Nana Project premiered as the opening night film at the SOHO International Film Festival on September 14, 2023, and was released on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, YouTube Premium, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 10, 2024, by Gravitas Ventures.

In the film, Sanz plays Luis Amarillo, a patient and kind chess player who shares a spicy on-screen relationship with his loud and charismatic wife, Carmensita, portrayed by Dixie Light. Luis's journey unfolds as he qualifies for the State chess championship alongside Nana, played by the legendary Mercedes Ruehl.

"I'm incredibly excited about this opportunity to step into the world of feature films," said Sanz. "It's been amazing to be able to delve into the different aspects of the industry, from music to television and now film. I'm always looking to grow and keep becoming a well-rounded artist. Working with such talented actors and being part of a story that highlights the importance of family and connection is truly a dream come true for me. I hope audiences enjoy the film as much as we enjoyed making it."

The film is set primarily in the Timeless Acres Retirement Home, following feisty chess master Helen "Nana" Lewis (Ruehl) and her estranged grandsons, Andrew (Gould) and Cody (Peltz). With the support of Nana's resident friends, the family embarks on a road trip to support her rise to the state championships.

The Nana Project is light, funny, and heartwarming—a family movie for all to enjoy. The ensemble cast includes many renowned actors who have been alongside us for years, such as Tony Todd (the original Candyman), Sierra McCormick (Disney's Ant Farm), Morgan Fairchild (Dallas), Beth Broderick (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and many more.
