Colombian singer Mería, better known by her family and friends as María Clara Medina, releases her new single “In This Life”, her first featuring with reggae music legend Big Mountain, widely recognized for their worldwide hit “Baby I Love Your Way”.

Only two years ago the young singer began her musical career with her single “Mio”. In a short period of time Mería has achieved what very few artists achieve: performing at the iconic Hollywood Bowl theater in Los Angeles, where she will be singing "In This Life" alongside Big Mountain on September 18^th.

"In This Life" is a song in Spanish and English that uses the fresh sounds of reggae in a pop song. While talking about two people who love each other unconditionally. The song was created between the city of Medellin and San Diego with ByDerek and El Crispe.

Mería represents all young people who are willing to work hard to fulfill their dreams.

Did you have any experience singing or composing reggae?
I never sang or wrote a reggae song before, it was a challenge to create something that would have the best of both worlds, pop and reggae. It was such a nice experience

How did you get to do a featuring with the legendary band Big Mountain?
My incredible manager Nico was a big fan of Big Mountain and had the idea of trying to reach out to them on Instagram. He slid into their Dms and after a few messages Quino, the vocalist answered. He seemed interested so Nico sent him my music, told him about the project and that we would love to do a collab with them. Quino liked what we were doing so he asked us to show him something that could work for all of us. We didn’t have anything done that could work so we had to do it in a short period of time. We did it and Quino really liked it so we started all the process to finish it. It took months but it was worth it because we are really happy with the results.

You are gonna perform at the Hollywood Bowl, where only the most recognized artists in the world can perform. What does it mean for you and your career?
What a great question, sometimes I think about it or I’m rehearsing and I imagine myself on that stage and I just feel so excited and nervous. Not gonna lie, it means a lot to me, it’s such a big opportunity for me as an emerging artist. I know it’s not easy for other artists to get to that stage, I’m preparing myself to give the best of me to everyone that is going to be there with us, no doubt that that’s gonna open doors for my career, it’s going to be a huge opportunity and I’m gonna take advantage of it as much as I can for sure.

It’s been only two years that you released your first single and you already made it big. What advice would you give to other artists that are starting?
I think the best advice I could tell others is that if it is what you really want don’t ever stop even if you feel that nothing is happening with your music. This doesn’t have a manual so being constant will teach you and put you on the map. Work with love and enjoy the process, later you’ll look back and feel happy for how much you’ve improved and how much you’ve achieved. 

What do you have coming up?
A project that has me really excited that we’re going to start working on it is my first Ep, it’s something that has a really special work behind and because it’s my first one it comes with new challenges and learnings that excites me a lot because I know that I’m going to grow as an artist.

What are your hobbies and how do you think are related to music?
My hobbies are makeup and cooking. Makeup has really helped me in my career because as we all know when you’re starting you don’t have a lot of budget to pay everything so I do my makeup for shows, pictures and events, and the cooking, well I started a home cake shop to support my career with the money of the sales but I had to stop doing it because music started demanding more and more time, so I couldn’t do both but I hope I can reopen it in the future.
