‘The Garcias’: HBO Max’s ‘The Brothers Garcia’ Reboot to Premiere April 14
The Garcias will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, April 14, with its initial three episodes, followed by three more episodes on April 21 and the final four episodes on April 28—a total of ten episodes for season one.
The Garcias is a reboot of the hit show The Brothers Garcia, which ran for four seasons from 2000 to 2004 on Nickelodeon. It was a multi-award-winning series for its non-stereotypical portrayal of a family that just happened to be Latino. In The Garcias, we jump forward 15 years from the original series. The Garcia kids are now grown up and have children of their own. The new series sees the extended Garcia family travel to the beautiful Riviera Maya in Mexico, a place full of self-discovery where they will all learn what it really takes to be a “familia.”
The series was shot in the summer of 2021 near Tulum, Mexico, in the Riviera Maya. It features the original cast from The Brothers Garcia: Ada Maris, Carlos Lacamara, Bobby Gonzalez, Vaneza Pitynski, Jeffrey Licon, and Alvin Alvarez. Now that the original Brothers Garcia kids have grown up, they are married and have kids of their own. The new cast includes Nitzia Chama, Elsha Kim, Paul Rodriguez Jr., Maeve Garay, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Ayva Severy, and Oliver Alexander.
Executive Producer and Showrunner Jeff Valdez spent seven years trying to get the rights back from Viacom for The Brothers Garcia. He achieved success when Bob Bakish, Viacom President and CEO, listened to his request for the rights and sold them back. Valdez then spent another three years pitching, selling, and shooting the show, so it took a total of ten years to bring it back.
