Zoe Saldana on Broadening The Narrative of Gamora in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
Besides now being able to claim the biggest box office opening weekend of all time, one of the most impressive things about Avengers: Infinity War is how the film is able to give characters that have been the center of their individual Marvel movies their due within an epic and ambitious narrative. Prior to the film's release, the 19th feature from Marvel Studios had been described as the biggest cross over event in pop culture history. Having seen the film, this description doesn't quite do it justice. No single character is reduced to a cameo. Every single one has a moment that directly affects the plot or a story beat that deepens their character development. One of the best examples of this is Zoe Saldana's Gamora from the Guardians of the Galaxy films.
While writer director James Gunn never made the mistake of minimizing the character as Starlord's love interest, her story arc in the new Marvel adventure is rich, complicated and gives the first female Guardian of the Galaxy a depth that is truly deserved and rewarding. Nobody seems more grateful and surprised that this happened than the actress herself. During a star studded press conference, hosted by a wildly amused Jeff Goldblum in full on Grandmaster of ceremonies mode, Entertainment Affair got to talk to the actress about expanding her character through her relationship with Thanos, a character that was teased at the end of the first Avengers and was played by Josh Brolin for the first time in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.
Watch the video below where the talented Hispanic actress talks to Entertainment Affair about bringing Gamora's "complicated relationship with her dad" to the forefront in Avengers: Infinity War.
