Enrique Iglesias & Nicky Jam Top Winners at Telemundo’s “Latin American Music Awards”

TELEMUNDO announced the winners of the first-ever “Latin American Music Awards” last night during the live awards ceremony that featured top musical performances, surprise collaborations and a heartfelt and lively musical homage to the unforgettable Celia Cruz. The coveted event took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. For a behind-the-scenes view of the show, including a backstage pass of rehearsals, artist interviews, red carpet fashion and some of the program’s best performances, viewers can tune-in to the one-hour special “Latin American Music Awards All Access” on Saturday, October 17 at 1PM/12c on NBC Universo.

Enrique Iglesias was the top winner of the night with five awards including the coveted Artist of the year and Favorite Male Artist awards. His collaboration on Nicky Jam’s "El Perdon” won in the categories of Song of the Year Favorite Collaboration and Favorite Streaming Song, earning three awards for Nicky Jam. Artists that won two awards include: Daddy Yankee for Favorite Male Artist-Urban and Favorite Song-Urban for his hit single "Sígueme y te Sigo"; Cuban duo Gente de Zona was awarded Favorite Duo or Group-Urban and Favorite Song-Tropical for "La Gozadera"; Julion Alvarez y su Norteño Banda earned Favorite Duo or Group-Regional Mexican and Favorite Song-Regional Mexican for “Y Así Fue"; Ricky Martin earned Album of the Year for "A Quien Quiera Escuchar" and Favorite Song-Pop/Rock for "La Mordidita".

Single award winners include: Demi Lovato for Favorite Crossover Artist; Gloria Trevi was named Favorite Female Artist; Romeo Santos earned Favorite Artist-Tropical, while Selena Gomez and Zedd won Favorite Dance Song with "I Want You To Know.” Camila was named Favorite Duo or Group-Pop/Rock; Luis Coronel won Favorite Male Artist-Regional Mexican; Marc Anthony received Favorite Song-Tropical for his collaboration on Gente de Zona’s "La Gozadera;” and Yotuel earned an award for Favorite Song-Pop/Rock for his collaboration on "La Mordidita". The award for New Artist of the Year went down to the wire with the audience continuing to vote during the live ceremony and J Balvin emerged as the winner.

The awards show, which was hosted by award-winning actress, TV host and multi-platinum singer Lucero, featured English and Spanish-language musical acts with six surprise on-stage collaborations, over ten television premieres, including four worldwide debuts by Paulina Rubio, Gloria Trevi, Fonseca and Yandel with Lil Jon. Among the highlights: Daddy Yankee opened the show; Natalie La Rose was joined onstage by Kevin Roldan and De La Ghetto; India, Maluma, Yuri and Sergio George hit the stage with “Celia” stars Aymee Nuviola, Jeimy Osorio and Modesto Lacen on an amazing tribute to the great Celia Cruz; while Mexican teen sensation CD9 made their U.S. debut performing at the awards ceremony. Reik, Ill Volo, Gerardo Ortiz, Luis Coronel, Jesse & Joy, Farruko, Shaggy, and DJ Alex Sensation also performed on the first “Latin AMAs” stage.
