We Preview Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' through Immersive Oculus Rift Experience
Paramount has taken Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic, Interstellar, to new dimensions by bringing to AMC theaters the out of this world Oculus Rift Experience. Entertainment Affair had the opportunity to sit down and undergo a 4 minute simulated voyage on an exact virtual replica of the film's Endurance spaceship that certainly felt like you were shuttling through space.
Through this 360-degree virtual experience, while sitting on a comfortable reclining chair, you are pushed around the spaceship as if you were in a zero gravity zone. At one point the chair drops and with the help of audio and visuals you feel as if you are floating inside the spaceship. It is so real that you want to reach and grab objects that are floating around you as well as push buttons on the main panel as if you were an actual astronaut, even though you know it's not possible. At the cockpit as you float into the pilot’s seat and have the urge to sit down, you are given front row seats to Saturn’s light show, and as you are being delighted with such a spectacle you are suddenly interrupted by the massive force of a black hole that traps you and at that point the experience comes to an end.
This immersive experience is far more than just pure fun, it is certainly innovative and very futuristic. This is the inexpensive and fastest way to experience space travel without all the nuisances and the dangers that may come with real space travel. If you want to experience not just space travel but time travel as well, Nolan will take you through the dimensions of space and time in a 2 hour and 49 minute "blow your mind" journey with his monumental Interstellar movie.
Interstellar opens November 5 in 35mm, 70 mm and IMAX and on November 7 in all theaters nationwide. Check your locals listings for the Interstellar Oculus Rift Experience in a city near you.
