Two decades have passed since the release of Dumb and Dumber back in 1994. For fans of this comedy classic, the wait is finally over. Dumb and Dumber To is the sequel everyone is talking about and far from disappointing. Director’s Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly affirm, “You know I think it is exactly the same and I hope it is because we want Dumb and Dumber To to be, you know pretty much exactly like the original. And I think that with Harry and Lloyd, Jim Carrey/Jeff Daniels that we have kept it the same.” Bobby Farrelly added, “We didn’t want the tone of the original to change because they don’t change. And you know, even though humor of course evolves and changes all the time… we wanted the two movies to blur together.”

Dumb and Dumber To picks up twenty years later with Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) taking care of long time friend Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey), who has been in a mental institution all along. After learning it was all a ruse, Harry makes sure to get back at Lloyd. “This movie is almost exactly like the first movie in this regard, you don’t mess with Harry,” commented Bobby. But when it comes to being dumb and being dumber, which is which? Both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels agree, “everyone gets their chance at the dumber.” Jeff points out, “It depends what page you’re on in the script… Lloyd leads the way.”

As the two work together to save Harry’s life, the pair goes on an adventure filled with surprises. Kathleen Turner, who plays the mother of Penny (who is rumored to be Harry’s daughter), talked about her character Fraida Felcher. “I thought I better look pretty tacky.  God bless her, but Fraida is not a classy woman.” Turner also shared why she finds the humor of the film so appealing. “One of the things I like about them is that their humor is kind, and they almost reminded me of John Waters, in that sense.  So much of the humor nowadays is rather mean spirited; it’s based on someone’s humiliation. There’s a sweetness to the Farrellys’ humor.  Yeah these guys are really dumb.  They’re really stupid.  But that doesn’t make them bad people.  In fact, the people who do look down on them usually get their comeuppance.  I like that.  I like that there is a sweetness in this humor.”

Turner is not the only one joining the franchise. Comedian Rob Riggle plays twin brothers, Travis and Captain Lippincott. The actor, who is known for playing authority figures, talked about playing both these characters and how sharing the scene with stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels was a dream come true. “I enjoyed Captain Lippincott a lot ‘cause he probably falls more into the traditional type character that I play, which is an authority figure… But being able to be Travis and being traveling around with Jim and Jeff and being the straight man for them to me was very joyful. Pure joy.”

Back in December of 1994, Dumb and Dumber grossed $16.4 million in the U.S. alone during opening weekend. Both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels agree that making this sequel ‘was a fan driven project.’ But what will happen when fans are left wanting more of Dumb and Dumber To? Peter Farrelly stated, “Hopefully in twenty years we will make a third movie and hopefully they would have not have changed all. I’m sure they're going to be a little bit older, but no that's the beauty of these two characters, Harry and Lloyd, is that they don't grow. They're like little boys all their lives even if they were, you know much older and grayer, they would still be little boys at heart.”

Dumb and Dumber To opens in theaters Friday, November 14^th.
