'Ouija' Review: Enough Moments of Suspense and Straight to the Point Dialogue
This Halloween season, Ouija, another movie that sets out to scare the audience, opens up on October 24, 2014. Ouija is an American supernatural horror film directed by Stiles White and co-written with Juliet Snowden. The film stars Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith, Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto, Bianca A. Santos, Erin Moriarty, and Vivis Colombetti.
When it comes to the dead and contacting them you must open up a channel or somehow make a connection and what better way to contact the dead than to use the Ouija Board. When it comes to playing with the Ouija Board there are two rules. Rule #1: never play in a graveyard and rule #2: never play alone. Those are the simple rules, but what happens when a group of teenagers play the Ouija Board in attempts to contact the dead? Thats where the movie starts getting interesting.
When a teenage girl suddenly "commits suicide", her best friend Laine can't seem to let go of the fact that her best friend is dead and she seeks out to find closure to her suspicious and mysterious death. Laine and a group of friends search for guidance from the Ouija Board to help them contact their dead friend. From the first time that they play the Ouija Board the group of friends awaken the dark powers of the ancient spirit board and are faced with a dark spirit that starts hunting all of them.
Somewhere in this movie we see a similar story line to the movie Final Destination where the group starts diminishing in numbers and one by one die in an unforeseen freak accident. Laine continues her investigation in hopes to stop the accidental deaths that the group of friends are facing and finds herself dealing with more than she can bargain. The movie has many predictable moments, yet it seems to be the perfect movie for the teenage demographic. It has enough moments of suspense to keep you at the edge of your seat and quick short dialogue that gets straight to the point. As the audience we wonder, what is really the story behind the Ouija Board and its power?
