Nat Geo Mundo Presents "Los 90: ¿la última gran década?"
The ’90s were a decade of highs and lows. Bill Clinton swept into the United States Presidential office on the promise of change; viewers made new “Friends”; civil war rocked Rwanda; notorious Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar, was taken down, and MTV’s “The Real World” changed the real world television programming landscape. It was a time when technology accelerated us into our digital future, a time when billionaires were created faster than ever before. With a distinguished cast of actors, eyewitnesses, politicians and celebrity interviewees, we tell the story of 10 years before boom turned into bust; 10 years when the Web was wide open; 10 years before global terror hit hard.
Los 90: ¿la última gran década?, a three-part series, premieres Saturday, July 19 from 6PM ET/PT on Nat Geo Mundo with and explores the thrilling decade. The two-hour miniseries presents the decade’s most unpredictable, unforgettable and unbelievable moments like no one has before. Los 90: ¿la última gran década? will revisit the people, the inventions and the decisions that shaped our current world, told from the perspective of the history makers, celebrities, politicians and musicians who created these iconic moments.
Among the history-changing stories, the special will examine the release of Nelson Mandela, spiritual leader of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, Rwanda’s civil war, the takedown of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, the televised “video game” that was Desert Storm, and how it changed the world forever, a music industry that began offering alternative sounds (Nirvana) to rap (Tupac and Notorious B.I.G), the roller-coaster ride of the Clinton administration, and the inexorable rise of Osama Bin Laden, and his rehearsals of terror that would lead to the earth-stopping events of September 11, 2001.
Los 90: ¿la última gran década? features 120 original interviews – from unsung heroes behind the decade’s most riveting stories to the biggest names in politics, tech, movies and music. Among those sharing their stories will be Courtney Love, Vanilla Ice, Jerry Springer, Colin Powell, and Tonya Harding, among others, accompanied by a spectacular soundtrack and unforgettable footage.
