INSIDE OUT

If you’re wondering where all the Pixar Animations have gone, keep reading. An upcoming Disney•Pixar film is just in its final stages, to be released next year. Entertainment Affair was invited for a special sneak peek and behind the scenes look of the new original animation, Inside Out.

Director Pete Docter tells us about the hard work that goes into making an animated film and adds just how much he loves Pixar movies, its authenticity. He explains his thought process on making something new. “After all this time how do you stay fresh… How do we push the limits and bring the audience somewhere they’ve never been?”

But what is the world of Inside Out? A mind! Well, the mind of a little girl whose emotions we get to meet. Her emotions are actual energy particles and these particles are actual characters, played by some of Hollywood’s favorite stars. Anger is played by comedian Lewis Black, Sadness by actress Phyllis Smith, Fear by the talented Bill Hader, Disgust by the funny Mindy Kalig, and Joy by the multitalented Amy Poehler. These five emotions were thought thoroughly. In fact, the research for this film includes speaking to specialists and understanding the mind and how it works. So you can expect to learn a little something too. Producer Jonas Rivera said, “We thought of these characters as our seven dwarves.”

Docter explained that among his many inspirations, it was his daughter who inspired the story. He reminisced on the changes of his daughter from the early years to teen years and explained that the emotions are plenty, adding that emotions are “An experience that happens when you grow up.”

These are just a few highlights of what’s to be expected from this new animated film. By the looks of it, moms and dads will have just as much fun as the kids.

In addition, a short film titled Lava is set to be released along with the feature. We got to see it first and although short, it’s a sweet and heartwarming journey with beautiful Hawaiian music. Director Jone Murphy calls it a “Giant little love story.”

Inside Out will be released in theaters by Summer 2015.
