BLENDED

With one of Hollywood’s funniest and most beloved on screen couple, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler bring us another fun filled adventure for the entire family. This is their third collaboration for the big screen and although their previous films have also been filled with comedy and romance, Blended is a sweet story that charms not only the young couples, but the parents and families as well. When asked about their collaborations over the past years, the stars glanced at each other and explained that it was just time for another film. Directing herself to Sandler, Barrymore commented, “Every like eight years, I call you up and I say ‘we need to meet for lunch’ and then I say ‘it’s time”. Sandler added, “It’s time to make a movie.”

Blended is sweet, funny, and the couple’s chemistry is strikingly charming. Lauren (Drew Barrymore) and Jim (Adam Sandler) are two single parents doing their best to care for their kids. While the two are single for different reasons, their way of thinking is a lot more similar than they think. At this point in their lives, they’re not just waiting for the next best thing; they’re in a scenario that many can actually relate to. “What really got me about reading the script and like what gets me when I watch the movie is I want funny because I need to laugh but I need heart and I need emotional. I wanna laugh and I wanna cry. When these two people quietly talk about how they just wanna be good parents and like what is gonna make their kids happy and how are they gonna function in this world. That just gets me,” said Barrymore.

While Jim and Lauren begin to realize that they have much more in common than they think, Eddy (Kevin Nealon) and Ginger (Jessica Lowe) show off what a new love affair is all about (not being able to keep their hands off each other) in the funniest way. The two sit in the middle of tension and share dinner conversations with Lauren and Jim’s family, which have some of the most adorable kids seen on the big screen this year, one of them being the talented Bella Thorne, who most kids will recognize from Disney Channel’s original series Shake It Up. Thorne tells us a little about her character Hilary (Jim’s daughter). “I’m kind of a tomboy and I think every girl would feel for this character because there’s a lot of times where your wanting to get out of your own skin and she just wants to be noticed. She just wants this boy to notice that she’s a girl and he doesn’t.” Her character begins as a girl who later develops into a beautiful young lady. And when these changes occur there’s usually only one person who really understands that. Drew Barrymore added, “Bella and I did our scene together. I couldn’t get through it without crying. I really couldn’t because she’s talking to me and this is a girl in this movie who needs a mom. I can relate to that. I had times in my life where I really needed a mom.”

Emotions run wild in the film, especially since part of the film takes place in Africa, which is where we get to meet Nickens, a fun and unpredictable character played by the talented Terry Crews. All of the actors both individually and together deliver endless funny moments. This including the music as it stands alone as another comedic talent. Director Frank Coraci mentioned that ‘part of the music was actually incorporated in the script’. Barrymore followed, “The music cues was one of my favorite jokes”.

Among the ever so funny movies the two have worked together, Blended is different from their previous work. Though, it’s not much to mention that this film incorporates funny movie references including 50 First Dates. So if you’re a fan of their work, you’re in for a real treat. Don’t miss the chance to call it a family night and watch this new hilarious summer fun adventure.

Blended is in theaters Friday, May 23rd.
