Captain America is Back, Stronger than Ever in 'The Winter Soldier'
Marvel’s latest film “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, living quietly and trying to adjust to the modern world, until a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack and he becomes tangled in a web of intrigue and mystery that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, and with the help of a new ally, Falcon, Captain America has to confront an unexpected new enemy, the Winter Soldier.
In this new installment we can see how the characters are evolving and showing different sides of themselves that we haven’t seen before. For actor Chris Evans, Captain America has changed his life, “had I not done the movie, it would’ve been the biggest mistake of my life.” He also mentioned in a recent press conference, that it would’ve been his biggest regret today. “Marvel has the Midas touch, so every time you suit up you know that you are making something of quality. It’s rewarding on every level,” he added.
Scarlett Johansson feels that Natasha is having a “huge wave of self-discovery” in this film. “Once she’s out of the suit, she’s a woman. She has her own kind of reality outside of the suit,” she said. “Natasha is a bit of a reluctant super hero. She doesn’t necessarily have this really kind of strong golden moral compass,” she added when asked how she felt about Natasha being a role model for girls. One of the things that attracted Johansson to this role is the way Natasha uses her feminine ways, but don’t rely on her sexuality to get the job done. “She’s extremely smart, she thinks on her feet, she’s a leader, and she has a lot foresight,” she said.
Coming back to a character is sometimes challenging for actors, in different ways. Johansson feels she has grown over the time that she had played Natasha. “I think the characters story is more enriched as my own experiences are,” she said. For Evans it’s less of a spiritual feeling, because it seems his costume is shrinking. “It feels that it’s getting tighter. [Laughs] It’s an honor to jump into it no matter how uncomfortable it is,” he added.
With so many sequels and spinoffs films being made out of Marvel characters, Kevin Feige, producer and Marvel Studios President says he doesn’t worry about the stories getting old. “The key to making these movies different, unique each time is to, I wouldn’t say take chances, necessarily, but to be able to move pieces around on the playing board,” Feige said. So for this film Marvel brought talented director brothers Anthony and Joe Russo. “We tried to make the movie reflective of our real world condition and our real world state, even though it’s a fantasy expression of what it is,” Anthony Russo said about setting the movie in a world that could easily be ours right now. The Russo brothers are set to direct the next installment and they couldn’t be more excited to keep working with Marvel. “You have an infrastructure at Marvel that is different than anywhere in the world, which is an incredible infrastructure. Very talented and intelligent people there to help get your vision across,” added Joe Russo.
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” has a great script, edge of your seat action that’s paired with a great cast to make it one of the best Marvel movies yet, and you don’t want to miss it.
