“La Reina del Sur” Starring Kate del Castillo Returns to Telemundo
Telemundo is proud to announce the return of La Reina del Sur on Monday, November 11 at 9pm/8c. The internationally successful series, viewed by millions of audiences in more than 86 countries and translated into 17 languages, tells the story of Teresa Mendoza, played by acclaimed actress Kate del Castillo. A girl with modest means from Sinaloa, Mexico, Teresa embarks on a new life after falling in love with the handsome El Güero Dávila (Rafael Amaya), a pilot from San Antonio who runs drugs for a cartel led by Epifanio Vargas (Humberto Zurita).
Teresa’s saga begins with a simple phone call that changes her destiny forever. El Güero had warned her that if the phone rang it would mean he was dead and that his enemies were coming to find her, because, in the drug business, people pay for betrayal with their life and the lives of their loved ones. Teresa flees and, after a long journey, arrives in Spain, where a series of events will leave their mark on her life forever. In Melilla, a Spanish enclave in North Africa, she takes up with another drug trafficker, Santiago Fisterra (Iván Sánchez), who teaches her how to move drugs via speedboat across the dangerous Straits of Gibraltar. Fate lands Teresa in a Spanish prison, where her cellmate, Patricia O’Farrel (Cristina Urgel), coaches her to adopt a more sophisticated, elegant persona. Upon her release, Teresa enters into partnership with the Russian mafia and takes the reins of a vast drug trafficking empire, rising to dominance in a business traditionally managed by men.
Filmed in high definition by Telemundo Studios, La Reina del Sur, an RTI-Telemundo production, features locations in Morocco, Mexico, Spain and Colombia.
