What captured the hearts and laughter of America for the first time in 2009 is back with bigger jokes and groundbreaking 3D animation in a must see adventure that will make your little ones (including yourself) ready for a replay. From opening to ending credits, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 keeps you laughing off your core. At least, that is what audiences at the theater had to show.

This animated adventure picks up exactly where the first ended, celebrating Flint Lockwood’s (Bill Hader) invention—a machine that turns water into food. What takes the cast into a new experience is the discovery of the machines survival and that Swallow Falls is now being resided by more than just humans, “foodimals” (food animals). This is now dangerous according to genius Chester V, an inventor who Flint idolizes.  Chester (Will Forte) gives Flint an opportunity to save the world from giant cheese spiders and other food creatures. But, before Flint and Steve the Monkey (Neil Patrick Harris) embark on this dangerous mission, Flint seeks out the help of his friends Sam Sparks (Anna Faris), Brent Steve (Andy Samberg), Earl Deveraux (Terry Crews), Manny (Benjamin Bratt), and his father Tim (James Caan).

The former town cop, Earl Deveraux played an integral and hilarious role this time around. Coming into the film already a fan was very exciting for Terry Crews, who said, “My kids and I loved the first movie and it was one of the best days of our family lives… so when they asked me to play the role I was honored.” He added, “For me it was hard because I was taking over the iconic Mr. T and they (the directors) said we want Terry Crews and I thought that was really cool.” Earl’s experience as town cop tells him Chester, the film’s villain, can’t be trusted but Flint’s admiration for Chester blurs his judgment. It’s to be expected since they both have similar upbringings. Directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn explained the idea while developing the antagonist: “One of the heroes that he had on his wall would be something that we would be aiming for in terms of like a character goal. The whole development of Chester came very organically but the idea is that if Flint doesn’t get corrected, he’s gonna be like Chester”. Hippotatomus, Jellybee, Cantalope, Mosquitoasts and all the other food animals from the island know who the real Chester V is. Now it’s up to Flint to realize it too.

Meanwhile, we get to experience the incredible world of Swallow Falls with endless food animal hybrids. “If you can find a good mix of an animal and a food that not only gives you a great design but also a cringe-worthy pun, that’s what we wanted,” says Cameron. Justin K. Thompson, the film’s production designer, adds, “as obvious as the puns are, that’s the fun — kids can recognize their favorite foods in the foodimals and be able to name them.” In fact, no food group was left behind. Cody Cameron said, “we had to make sure we covered all of the food groups” and they did.

Enjoy an adventurous and delicious journey back to Swallow Falls with endless fun and clever humor written for both kids and adults in this Sony Pictures Animation.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 will be in theaters nationwide on September 27, 2013.
