RBMA Panamérika Presenta Escenario Celebrates Alternative Latin Music
Performances by Bomba Estereo, Astro, La Santa Cecilia, Que Bajo?! and Special Guest Carla Morrison Rock The Henry Fonda Theatre
Last night 1,100 Los Angeles locals flocked to the Henry Fonda Theatre to watch performances by some of the most groundbreaking artists in today's Latin music scene. Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) Panamérika presenta ESCENARIO's killer line-up, featuring Bomba Estero, Astro, La Santa Cecilia, Que Bajo?! and Carla Morrison, took to the stage for a night of unforgettable international music in front of a sold-out crowd.
The show kicked off with Que Bajo?!, the Brooklyn-based DJ duo formed by Uproot Andy and Geko Jones. Uproot Andy is a DJ/Producer of bass heavy and melodic dance music derived from the diverse global rhythms of immigrant New York. Geko Jones has been recognized as one of the few DJs pushing forward a well thought out Latin agenda in the global bass world. Their upbeat set was the perfect intro to a high-energy evening. They also played between each band's performance, keeping the audience dancing to their eclectic live mixes of folkloric and modern bass music.
Following Que Bajo?!, La Santa Cecilia, a Latin Grammy-nominated group of six musicians from Los Angeles, took the stage. They captivated the audience with their dynamic performance and the debut of their new single titled "El Hielo," which was performed in collaboration with Carla Morrison. The group ended their set and appeased the crowd by performing Morrison's song, "Compartir."
Astro, who traveled to L.A. all the way from Chile, performed next. They rocked the stage with their innovative style, a mix of alternative sounds infused with psychedelic rock, playing songs such as "Colombo," "Panda," and "Manglares."
The evening's special guest, Carla Morrison, was next on stage to perform a couple of songs for the crowd. Her mesmerizing voice poured over the speakers as she sang a heartfelt rendition of "Eres Tú," which she followed with fan-favorite, "Déjenme Llorar." The Mexican songstress is experiencing one of the most special moments of her career having recently won two out of the four Latin GRAMMYs (Best Alternative Album and Best Alternative Song) she was nominated for, and a nomination for a GRAMMY.
"Electro-tropical" Colombian band, Bomba Estéreo, closed the show with an explosive performance starting with "Caribbean Power" that had the crowd instantly engaged. Lead vocalist, Li Saumet, danced around the stage with an electrifying spark that kept up until the end of their performance. The band played other hits like "Bailar Conmigo," "Sintiendo," and "Pure Love." Carla Morrison joined them on-stage for a special performance of "El Alma y el Cuerpo." This was the first stop of the band's U.S. tour promoting their new album Elegancia Tropical.
