Locos por Juana Present their 5th Studio Album, "Somos de la Calle"
Miami based band Locos Por Juana will release their new album this summer titled “Somos de la Calle” (We’re From the Streets). Locos Por Juana are Itagui Itagüí Correa on vocals, Mark Kondrat on guitar, and Javier Delgado on drums, accompanied by percussionist Carlos Palmet and Lasim Richards on the trombone.
The band has been together 12 years, during which time they have experimented with a wide array of rhythms to create their distinctive sound. For “Somos de la Calle” Locos Por Juana have developed a more mature style and solidified their identity as a band. “Time is everyone’s best friend. In this case time has helped us to create our own sound”, says Itagüí Correa.
Their tremendous energy and exuberant cadence have become their signature. These musicians are the architects of a hybrid sound impossible to categorize. The folklore of the band members’ afro-Colombian roots is the cornerstone of this innovative fusion that combines elements of their Latin American heritage with the urban sound of a big and culturally heterogeneous city.
The success of their prior works led them to a nomination for a Latin Grammy in 2005 for “Musica pa’l Pueblo” and for a Grammy Award in 2009 for “La verdad“. “It’s my belief that the awards and nominations we have received have been due to the sincerity we put into our work. When we found out about these honors it was an unbelievable surprise”, says Itagüí.
“Somos de la Calle” invites the audience to a journey through the “magic city”; the place where the members of the band grew up and developed their diverse musical tastes. “This album wasn’t planned. It came naturally to us. It represents our experiences on the streets.” Mark Kondrat commented. As part of their energetic style, Locos Por Juana mix festive beats that invite the public to dance and celebrate, with lyrics that dwell on current social issues.
Locos Por Juana rejoices in the satisfaction of knowing that their hard work has been noticed. Their mission is to contribute to a strong music scene that represents the rich cultural mixture of Miami as a legacy for future generations.
