Johnny Lozada Joins the "Despierta América" Family as Co-Host
The popular Puerto Rican singer, actor, and entertainment reporter adds his talents to the dynamic hosting team for Univision’s highly rated morning show
After a short stint as special guest host on Univision Network’s morning show “Despierta América” (Wake Up America), Univision’s president of Univision Studios and Entertainment, Luis Fernandez, announced that Johnny Lozada has joined the program as co-host. He will appear every weekday morning alongside Despierta América’s other hosts, Karla Martínez, Raúl González, and Chiquinquirá Delgado. Until recently Lozada had been a regular on Univision’s Sunday night show-biz program “Sal yPimienta” (Salt and Pepper), where he interviewed celebrities, filed special reports, and participated in the show’s panel discussions.
Johnny Lozada is widely recognized throughout Hispanic America. As the former lead singer of the phenomenally successful Latin pop “boy band” Menudo, he became famous during the 1980’s. With the group he performed at sold-out concerts across Latin America and the U.S., and starred in a film and two telenovelas. After leaving Menudo, his first solo album topped the music charts and was nominated for a Latin Grammy ® Award. Later, he became part of the successful music group “Proyecto M.” In addition, throughout the years he has been a guest and co-host on various shows for the Univision and TeleFutura networks, among others.
Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, “Despierta América” is Univision’s top rated weekday morning show. For four lively hours, the show features topics of special interest to the Hispanic community, plus the day’s top headlines, entertainment news, consumer tips, practical information, celebrity guests, and much more.
