St. Jude Honors Juan Luis Guerra at the FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala
On May 19 at the 10th annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala presented by Manuel and Mercedes Mosteiro, more than 750 guests celebrated the humanitarian work of Latin singer Juan Luis Guerra and the work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases during the last 50 years. Daisy Fuentes, television personality and entrepreneur, received a special recognition for her support to the children of St. Jude and the gala, since its inception.
“Galas like this one allow St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continue its pioneering research and lifesaving treatment, so no family ever pays St. Jude for anything,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “As we advance treatments to cure these terrible diseases once and for all, we will continue to freely share our research discoveries around the world, so one child saved at St. Jude means thousands more saved around the world.”
Presenters included Latin personalities Giselle Blondet, Julian Gil, Blanca Soto, Pamela Silva Conde, and Raul Gonzalez. Live performances included Latin Grammy Award-winning icon David Bisbal, Vicente Garcia, Rodolfo Molina, DJ Irie, and MTV DJ Mauricio Parra. The festivities culminated with an after party hosted by DJ Irie, the official DJ of the Miami Heat.
“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a ray of hope for kids who are fighting for their lives and their families who are suffering unimaginable stress,” said Daisy Fuentes, who received a special recognition on behalf of the St. Jude family at the event. “The gala presents an opportunity to share how wonderful St. Jude is for the Latin community not only in South Florida but also, around the world.”
The gala chairs this year were Juanes and Karen Martinez. In 2010, Juanes was also the recipient of the Al-Rashid Hope Award. “Karen and I are so proud to have been a part of such a wonderful night along with our great friend and musical genius, Juan Luis Guerra, who like us, is inspired to help give health and happiness to so many children affected by childhood cancer and other terrible diseases,” said Juanes.
Latin celebrities in attendance included: Fonseca, Candela Ferro, Danna Garcia, Khotan, Myruam Bunin, Adriana Castro, Omar Cruz, Jose Antonio Alvarez, Isabella Castillo, Brenda, Sophia del Carmen, Christian de la Fuente, Raul De Molina, Roger Borges, Rodner Figueroa, Raul Gonzalez, Jeannette Kaplun, Maritza Rodriguez, Maria Regina Bustamante, David Chocarro, Nohelia Siddons, Alexandra Pomales, Sonya Smith, among others.
