After months of speculation, actor Rafael Amaya confirmed this week that he will star in Telemundo’s newest mega-production EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS (The Lord of the Heavens). The news was given live at the Telemundo upfronts in New York City.  The highly anticipated telenovela will start filming later this year and will air in 2013.  The co-production of EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS will be helmed by ARGOS PRODUCCIONES México, who has been responsible for several hit films including “Lucia Lucia”, “Sexo, Pudor y Lagrimas”, “Cronica de una Muerte Anunciada” and of the telenovelas “Infames”, “El Sexo Debil”, “Mientras Haya Vida” and many other exciting productions.

“For me it is a great honor to be able to finally announce this mega project. I’m happy to embody such a multifaceted character as Damian Torres.  It will be a challenge and I hope that people enjoy it.” said Amaya.

During his magnificent career, Amaya has become one of the most important actors of his generation. The actor, winner of Mexico’s Oscar equivalent—La Diosa de Plata—for his role in the film “Desnudos”, has had a string of hits in recent years including starring as El Güero Davila in the telenovela “La Reina del Sur”, which made history as the most-watched soap opera in Telemundo’s history, and having starred in two series simultaneously in Spain—“Doctor Mateo” and “Hospital Central”.  As well, Amaya, who is also a producer, managed to premiere his film “The Finding” at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and recently premiered his recent film “Adiós Mundo Cruel” (Goodbye Cruel World) at this year’s San Diego Latino Film Festival where he was awarded the festival’s highest honor, the Corazón Award.

Synopsis of EL SEÑOR DE LOS CIELOS (The Lord of the Heavens):
Damian Torres is a man of humble origins who dreams of having it all.  Due to his relentless will and his brave determination, Damian went from being a poor peasant to become one of the richest men in the world and a powerful drug dealer wanted by the DEA.  Damian encompasses the entire spectrum of what may the human soul is capable of, from the virtuoso to the unthinkable, all powered by a strong desire for power and wealth. His life becomes a quest for survival when his numerous enemies begin to hunt him and the DEA nears.  He realizes then, that his only way out is to start a new life, as a new man. Taking that literally, he decides to do a facial reconstruction.  Damian will find that once you choose the dangerous path to wealth he elected, there is no turning back.
