Cuba Comes to SXSW with Docu-Comedy "Amor Crónico"
With A Musical & Comedic Journey To Reconnect With Her Roots,
A Critically-Acclaimed Latin Music Star Gives Us A Rare Look Inside Cuba
Amor Crónico, a new film starring GRAMMY-nominated Latin music star Cucu Diamantes will premiere March 11th at the famed SXSW® Film Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas. Directed by Jorge Perugorría (Oscar-nominated lead actor in “Fresas y Chocolate”) and produced by Grammy-award winner Andrés Levín along with Oscar-nominated producer Sarah Green, Amor Crónico is a unique music docu-comedy that weaves live footage of Cucu Diamantes’ musical performances across Cuba with a fictional love story that captures her return to the island.
Born in Cuba with French, Spanish, African and Chinese heritage, CuCu Diamantes left her Caribbean home at a young age to pursue a life of art and music. Settling in New York after extensive travel in Europe, Cucu co-founded the highly acclaimed Latin music group Yerba Buena and played shows alongside artists ranging from The Dave Matthews Band and Ray Charles to Celia Cruz in her last ever New York concert. Cucu graduated to full-fledged solo chanteuse with the release of her critically praised album – CUCULAND and returned home for the first time to participate in the historic “Paz sin Fronteras” (“Peace without Borders”) concert - where she performed before an audience of over a million people. Inspired by her warm reception, Cucu decided to bring her unique musical fusion to her fellow Cubans beyond Havana, and embarked on an extensive tour of the island. With special cameo appearances by leading Cuban artists such as Muñequitos de Matanzas, Samuel Formel and Los Van Van, Alexander Abreu and Carlos Acosta from the London Royal Ballet, Cucu Diamantes’ irreverent Amor Crónico is an authentic celebration of Latin music, Cuban culture and independent filmmaking.
